Company Profile
The Garland organization began in 1895, as the Garland Refining Company. Since then, the company has evolved from being a manufacturer and distributor of industrial paints, oils, and greases to becoming a multinational enterprise with a core competency of construction, maintenance, and retrofit of complex roofing projects.
Our sister organization, The Garland Company, Inc., manufactures high-performance waterproofing materials to protect the commercial building envelope and distributes them across the United States. Garland Industries also has distribution organizations in Canada and Europe.
In 2001, Garland Industries, Inc. launched DBS in direct response to customer requests for a stable and responsive full-service organization that could replicate the Garland business model for the installation of complex roofing projects, in order to deliver seamless single-source accountability for both materials and installation.
Today, DBS capabilities extend from designing and implementing preventive maintenance programs that ensure consistent standards of quality across a number of facilities, to comprehensive turnkey delivery of the most complex new roofing projects.
Employee-Owner Commitment
As a 100 percent employee-owned enterprise, DBS offers an unwavering commitment to ensuring that each customer’s long-term performance outcomes are met. Our employee-owner representatives in the field, and the entire Garland network of representatives worldwide, are committed to providing lasting leak-free performance for the most cost-effective and efficient use of your roofing investments.
As a member of the Garland family of companies, DBS is aligned with a corporate mission statement that reads, in part: “Whenever it can be done better, Garland will do it!” We focus on developing and sustaining long-term customer relationships in order to ensure long-term value creation for our customers and shareholder employees. When you partner with DBS, you can be sure that we will honor our obligations for the life of your buildings.
Experience
In 1996, Garland incorporated the Garland Contracting, Inc. subsidiary to deliver preventive maintenance services to its roofing materials customers. Customer enthusiasm for the Garland business model resulted in the 2001 launching of a new enterprise, DBS, which could provide a complete range of design and construction services to meet the quick turnaround needs of customers seeking leak repairs, as well as the more comprehensive design/build requirements of customers needing complex roofing retrofits or new roof construction.
Our expertise extends to Construction Management, Roof Asset Management, Engineering, and Sustainable Building Solutions, including the installation of rooftop photovoltaic systems.
DBS has completed a vast array of public and private sector projects throughout the country, including emergency assessment and comprehensive building envelope and perimeter security services to help the State of Florida manage weather damage during one of the worst hurricane seasons on record. Other key clients include:
- Department of Veterans Affairs
- Department of the Army
- National Mine & Safety Academy
- United States Air Force
- United States Army Corps of Engineers
- United States Coast Guard
- General Services Administration
- Lockheed Martin

Financial Stability
As a subsidiary of Garland Industries, Inc., DBS is backed by the financial stability and support of a leader in high-performance waterproofing solutions for the commercial building envelope. With a track record of fiscally conservative management since 1895, our sister company, The Garland Company. Inc., routinely achieves Dun and Bradstreet’s highest rating in its classification (5A1). Garland has no long-term debt, and remains focused on a single core competency: commercial construction. The DBS Dun and Bradstreet rating is a financially strong 3A2, and like Garland, DBS has not long-term debt.
The Garland commitment to high-performance materials and quality installations allows us to deliver solutions that continue to provide leak-free performance well beyond their warranted lives. Our fully-funded Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) promotes business decisions that are based on long-term value creation for our shareholder employees. DBS customers can be confident that the long-term success of each of our representatives in the field depends directly upon the long-term success of the projects they manage. These same values apply to our relationships with an extended network of suppliers and subcontractors.
